I just learned of Clares’s death. I knew something wasn’t right when I didn’t receive her annual card; we didn’t keep in touch often but would share notes time and again. Your mom will forever be one of my mentors. She taught all of us to never wish time away no matter what and to work hard and do your best. I’m lucky to have known her. Our home in Davenport was Clare's last foster home of many. My parents thought so much of her and her desire to make a success of herself. She worked her way through the University of Iowa and got a degree after marrying Neil and starting a family. She was a success due to her outstanding work ethic and desire to succeed.
She was the highlight of the day she came to my father's 90th birthday party with her daughters. That's all he talked about after she left to go home.

Karen, Lynn & Steve,
I'm sadden to hear of the passing of your mother. She was one of best. I first knew her as Karen's mom, who was so cool to let us hang at the house. Then the teen years she became my boss. Taught me a great deal about responsibility and owning my mistakes. As the years passed she became a dear friend. I always looked forward to the annual Christmas letter.

Words can't express the loss I feel of Clare's passing. She was a true friend and we had many good times together. I can still see her getting up on the water skis on her first try when a group of us went.to the Ozarks (I never mastered it). I will miss her cards and letters on birthdays and Christmas. She had an untold wit and skill for writing. I know you all will miss her terribly,, as will all who knew her. She loved her family and spoke highly of each and every one. RIP Clare.
