How I could have lived in West Liberty for thirty years and not have known Jay is a mystery. But Jay and I didn't become acquainted until I had moved to the Quad Cities and begun attending a single's social club in 2005. Once we discovered we both had a West Liberty connection, we had common ground from which to touch base whenever we saw one another. Dave, who was also a member of that club, enjoyed Jay so much.
But really, with whom did Jay not have something in common? His wit and good nature swept around most people and brought them in, laughing! He was a generous host at his farm for several summers, inviting the social club for a corn feed picnic. Jay was fun personified. My husband, Dave, who was also part of the social club, enjoyed Jay so much.
We thank God for the opportunity to have known Jay. We smile when we think of him.
