Iowa City, Iowa George W. Cornwall, 92, died Saturday June 30, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday July 9, 2012 at the Christian Fellowship Church in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Church. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established. Burial will be in the Downey Cemetery, Downey, Iowa. George was born January 21, 1920 in Downey, Iowa the son of G. Victor and Faye Williams Cornwall. He was a graduate of West Branch High School in the Class of 1937 and attended Bible School for one year then was drafted. He was a US Army Veteran serving during WWII. He was a farmer in Downey and worked at Home Town Dairies in Iowa City. He was also very active in churches in Downey, Iowa City and West Liberty. He had coached Babe Ruth baseball for over 30 years. Survivors include his wife Avis. 4 Children: Barbara (Roger) Thoreson, Deanna (David) Meyer, Doug (Barbara) Cornwall and Sandra Cornwall. 8 Grandchildren: Kris (Caroline) Thoreson, Heidi (Nate) Lindskoog, Tim (Tori) Thoreson, Bridget Meyer, Daniel (Sandy) Meyer, Josh (Shasta) Cornwall, Angie Cornwall and Aaron (Khursten) Cornwall. Great Grandchildren: Nathen Petersen, Matthew Cornwall, Dalin, Toren, Cora, Jett and Brooks Lindskoog, Lars and Ellie Thoreson and Clara Cornwall.
