West Liberty, Iowa Betty Maxine Elder, 89, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following an extended illness. Betty was born on July 31, 1926 in West Liberty the daughter of Floyd and Bessie DeForest. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the Class of 1943. On October 13, 1946 she was united in marriage to Stanley Elder in West Liberty. She was an active member of the Coralville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Four Season's Garden Club in Iowa City. Reading and gardening were her favorite pursuits. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her four children: Roberta McKee of Saginaw, Texas; Steve (Betty) Elder of West Liberty; Larry (Velia) Elder of Edinburg, Virginia and Ann (Don) Robinson of Iowa City. Grandchildren: Lisa, John, David, Adam, Renae, Scott, Kevin, Matthew, Simon, Emily and 10 great grandchildren. A sister-in-law Vivian Bethel also survives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stanley, and a sister Edith Mae Hildebrand. At Betty's request, there will be no funeral or visitation. A family graveside service will be held in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to West Liberty Public Library, 400 North Spencer St. West Liberty or Muscatine County Fair, 101 N.
