Sandra Kay Hatfield, 59, of West Branch, died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at University Hospitals and Clinic in Iowa City. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Sandy was born August 30, 1950 in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Henry G. and Berniece Siebels Harms. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1968. Sandy was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Hatfield on January 17, 1969. . She worked as a companion to the elderly while living in Kailua, Hawaii and as a phone center supervisor in California. After moving to West Branch, Sandy was employed with the West Branch Library and then with Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center where she was the activities director for 20 years. Sandy served the community of West Branch as a member of the city council and as Mayor of West Branch for a combined 18 years. She also served as the president of the Cedar County Economic Development Commission. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Hatfield of West Branch, son Brian Hatfield of Moline, IL, daughter Tammy Kroemer of West Branch, grandchildren Allyson, Meghan, Josh Kroemer of West Branch and sisters Patricia Morse of Kansas City, MO and Regina Newell of Owosso, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son Scott.
