Dear Peggy and family:
Our prayers are with you during this difficult time. Mike and I had a great time together playing football and basketball at Tipton. He was always badgering me about something. He truly loved playing sports. I have coached all my life and I would have to say that Mike was one of the top all around athletes that I had contact with. He was always joking around about something. He also loved his cars. One day after football practice he let me drive his Plymouth Barracuda out to see Peggy. I almost wrecked it. Dear Peggy, my sympathy to you and all of your family. Mike was a great person. I will never forget some of the very special things that happened while playing sports with Mike in high school, thanks to Mike and his many talents. I think that I saw Mike about 10 years ago at Dale Kunde's store in Tipton. I think that was the only time that I had seen Mike in the last 50 years. I did not recognize him at first. He walked up to me and just smiled. After a couple of seconds, I smiled back and shouted something like "Mike, how in the heck are you". I was excited to see him, and we had a nice chat. Peggy, God bless you and your family and know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Mike was a larger than life person. I know of no one who did not look up to Mike. From the time I first met him in school he was my friend. Peg,
I was a Freshman at West Liberty when Mike was a Senior at Tipton. I remember watching him play football and I was in awe of his abilities and motivation. So, it was a great privilege to have him join the Rohner Machine softball team on which I played. I continued to have great respect for him, especially the incredible home runs he hit. We became very good friends and I found him to be an even better person. Eventually, I began lifting weights, in large measure because I respected his strength, stamina and work ethic. He went from being a bit of an idol to a role model to a great friend. He always made laugh, especially when in good humor he insulted me to make me better.
I heard of his passing right away from Butch Pedersen who thought a great deal of Mike. We are both deeply saddened by his passing and frankly shocked. He was so strong and so tough.
Please accept my deepest sympathies and know I have been thinking of him a great deal since Sunday. He was a really good man and I will never forget his positive influence on me.
