Georgia A. Elliott, 85, long time resident of Downey passed away at the Simpson Nursing Home in West Liberty on September 14, 2020 from COVID19.
Due to COVID regulations a private burial will be held Friday September 18 at the Downey Cemetery in Downey Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be determined at a later time. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is caring for Georgia’s family.
Georgia Alcena Elliott was born March 22, 1935, in Paola, Kansas, the daughter of Ivan and Mary (Gowing) Karr. She graduated from Paola High School and Pittsburgh University with a BS Medical Technician Degree.
On June 3, 1956, she was united in marriage to Leonard Keith Elliott in Miami Co, Kansas. They were blessed with 25 years of marriage and three wonderful children.
Georgia worked as a medical technician until her first child than she was a stay at home mom. They moved from Kansas to Iowa which would become their permanent home to raise the family. She was a devoted and active member of the Downey Baptist Church, and loved her small community.
Georgia loved life and cherished her family and friends above all else. She was a woman with a heart filled with love, determination and compassion. Georgia loved attending all of the grandchildren s activities and they always knew she would be there. She loved gardening (especially flowers), birds, her sheep (which included taking them to school for grand kids) they all had a name and she could tell them apart, genealogy, traveling with friends and family, teaching her quilting classes, sewing, reading multiple books at a time and her monthly clubs with her church and Downey friends.
Georgia is survived by her sons Andrew (Barb) Elliott of Atalissa, IA and their children Mindy, Matthew, Aaron, Eli; son Micheal Elliott of West Branch, IA and his children Hailey, Mariah; daughter Vicky (Chris) Putnam of Iowa City, IA and their children Jessica and Zachary, with all a combination of 10 great grandchildren; brother Glenn (Jaquline) Karr of Paola, KS, many nieces and nephews and great friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Elliott and her parents.
The family is grateful for the staff at Simpson Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
