GySgt Kenneth Edward Hatfield, USMC (Ret), 69, of Urbana, Missouri and formerly of West Branch departed this life on April 24, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Graveside services with military rites will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 29, 2014 at the West Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Henderson - Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkfuneralhome.com. Kenneth was born April 10, 1945 in Monticello, Iowa the son of Raymond Hatfield and Esther Hickey Hatfield Green. Kenneth was reared and attended school in Monticello, IA. After graduation, he met Sandy Harms and they started dating. He enlisted in the United States Army and served a tour in Vietnam. After returning, Kenneth and Sandy were united in marriage on January 17, 1969 in Monticello, IA, and to this union 3 children were born, 2 of whom survive him. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country again in Vietnam. After his return, the family moved to several places. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, they moved to West Branch, IA where he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Oakdale Correctional Facility. Sandy passed away on February 7, 2010. Kenneth was later introduced to Kim Sweaney by a mutual friend. They were united in marriage on February 8, 2013 in Miami, OK. Together they made their home in Urbana, MO. Kenneth enjoyed fishing for catfish, watching Mark Martin race NASCAR, collecting NASCAR die-cast memorabilia with his brother Bill, going to car shows, and spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, and the Minnesota Street Rod Association. Kenneth also loved spending time with his four dogs, Liberty, Lucy, Sadie, and Peanut.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; step father, James Green; his first wife, Sandy Hatfield; infant son, Scott Hatfield; one brother, Mick Hatfield; and two sisters, Pam Pederson and Janet Oehler. He is survived by his wife Kim Hatfield; one son, Brian Hatfield of St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Tammy Kroemer of West Branch, IA; two brothers, Bill & wife Sheri Hatfield of Monticello, IA and Dan Hatfield of West Branch, IA; two sisters, Renee Olson of West Branch, IA and Shelly & husband Joe Neumann of West Liberty, IA; three grandchildren, Allyson, Meghan, and Josh Kroemer; and best friend, GySgt Ronald E. Wasilewski, USMC (Ret). He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
