West Liberty, Iowa Waneta F. Wear, 95, went to be with her Lord Sunday December 29, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. She had lived at Heath Manor Independent Living for 17 years. Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Monday, January 6, 2019 at the Community Center, 1204 North Calhoun St., West Liberty. Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 until service time at the Community Center. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to West Liberty Ambulance Service or Iowa City Hospice. Waneta was born November 13, 1924 at West Liberty the daughter of Herbert and Fern (Gates) Wilson. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1941, and attended Iowa State College for 1 year. She then was Secretary for the School of Religion at the University of Iowa for 2 years. In 1946 she married Elvin Wear and was a homemaker for 28 years. After divorcing in 1974 she moved to West Liberty and worked at the Muscatine County Fair office on a part time basis for 10 years. She volunteered for the United Way, 4-H leader, Simpson Home Care Review Committee, Hospice and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce office 3 hours a week for 14 years. She was a member of the North Prairie Social Club which was organized in 1924 and disbanded after 78 years. She enjoyed doing various crafts and working in her yard and garden. At the age of 72 she said her favorite job was mowing the lawn. She always enjoyed her lengthy stays each year at the Iowa State Fair. She and her traveling companion, Betty Dahlgaard of Dubuque enjoyed going on Motor Coach Tours with Tri-State for 20 years. Waneta is survived by three children: Donna (Larry) Milner of West Liberty, Lauren (Nancy) Wear of West Liberty and Carla Morris of Nichols, grandchildren: Larae Lopez of Temple, Texas; Brian (Bridgette) Hintermeister of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Karen) Wear of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Toni (Brian) Crook of West Liberty, Brandy Morris of Inwood, Iowa, Monica Morris of Sigourney. 11 great grandchildren: Ashlie Hintermeister, Austin Lopez, Brynne Ronan, Aidan Hintermeister, Tyler, Alexis and Joscelyn Wear, Jessica, Olivia and Joshua Crook, Miles Christensen and Mi Song Jin a foreign exchange student of Minnetonka, Minnesota. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Gaylord Wilson, son-in-law: Randy Morris, former husband Elvin Wear, two great grandchildren Emily and Justin Crook.
