Obituary of Lorene E. Thomas

West Branch, Iowa

Lorene Thomas, 85, passed away suddenly Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Lorene was born January 5, 1933 in Iowa City daughter of Bruce Addison Jr. and Agnes Louise (Ruzek) Thompson. She was the oldest of three children. Lorene attended country school until the fifth grade and later graduated from West Branch High School in 1950. She attended AIC of Davenport Business College. On August 26, 1950 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Floyd "Chief" Thomas in Cambridge, Illinois.

Lorene had various bookkeeping jobs throughout her life, many of them helping her husband with his many business ventures. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, tending her flower beds and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include daughter Mindy (Dale) Nash-Slach, Mark (Jeanette) Thomas of West Branch;  Marcia "Deedee" (John) Wombacher and Michael (Jody) Thomas of Iowa City. 9 Grandchildren: Nicholas Nash, Nathaniel (Katie Kaplan) Nash, Marisa (Kevin) Stout, Zachery (Tara) Thomas, Marcus (Jade) Thomas, Michael (Jen) Thomas, J.J. (Jennie Kleinmeyer) Wombacher, Michael (Kelly) Thomas and Kayla (Richard) Nusbaum. 15 great grandchildren. Sister Linda Hatfield of Rockford Illinois and Brother Larry (Janet) Thompson of West Branch. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
