Gary L. Mills, 67, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City due to complications from cancer.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Liberty. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be held following the graveside service in the lower level of the church.
Gary was born May 28, 1951 in Iowa City the son of Burton and Amelia Hadley Mills. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the class of 1969 and attended Muscatine Community College. On May 6, 1972 he was united in marriage to Connie Madsen in Atalissa. Gary had served in the Iowa National Guard for 15 years. For 27 years Gary had managed Liqui Grow in West Liberty.
He enjoyed spending time with his farmer friends, was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, a member of Pheasants Forever and the Blue Bus Gang. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and attended many of their events as well as sharing time on the farm with them on the 4 wheeler.
Survivors include his wife Connie Mills of Nichols, three children: Brandon (Amy) Mills of Iowa City, Julie (Gary) Savona of Brookings, Oregon, and Beth (Randy) Baughman of North Liberty. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Jackson Mills, Christian Mills, Samara Mills, Quentin Mills, Lyncoln Andersen and Lily Sue Savona, sister: Vesta Mills of Muscatine and mother-in-law: Betty Madsen. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law: Paul Madsen.
