Obituary of Randall Eugene Cain

Please share a memory of Randall to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

West Liberty, Iowa

Randall (Randy) Eugene Cain was born May 14, 1954 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Edward (Gene) Eugene and Jane Lee (Eichenour) Cain. He loved the farm of his youth and remained there with his mom after Gene and Jane divorced. Randy gained an additional mom when Gene re-married to Phyllis. Randy ended his long and stoic battle on his terms - in the comfort of his own home with his loving wife by his side on Sunday, August 12, 2018.

Randy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Please join them for a Celebration of Life held at the West Liberty Community Center on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2 P.M. with a visitation for family and friends at from 1 until service time at 2 P.M. Additional time of sharing with the family will be held following the Celebration of Life. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to West Liberty Rescue Unit.

Randy attended Tipton schools and obtained his GED in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Harley trips. Randy met Dixie Babcock on a Friday evening in May of 1978; they were married that same July and celebrated 40 years of marriage in 2018. Randy and Dixie became proud and dedicated parents in 1985 when Rachel was born. Randy was notorious among Rachel’s friends as a Harley-riding bearded man who slightly resembled Santa Claus.

Randy was employed in construction for many years and was never prouder than when he was providing for his family. He worked for W. Hodgeman and Son (Fairmont, MN), Barker and Co. (Iowa City, IA), L.L. Pelling (Iowa City, IA) and later Walnut Grove Feeds in West Liberty for 17 years. Later in life, Randy worked part time for Liquid Grow and Danner Farms where his coworkers became like family to him.

In October of 2016, Randy became a grandpa to Oliver and the two became the best of friends. The twinkle in Randy’s eye was confirmation that only the best dads are promoted to grandpas.

Randy is survived by wife Dixie, daughter Rachel (Israel) Trevizo of North Liberty, grandson Oliver and grandson due November 2018; mother: Phyllis of West Liberty; brothers: Terry Cain and Billy (Connie) Cain both of Tipton; mother-in-law Joyce Kaufmann of Wilton; special aunt: Arlene Clark Cain of West Liberty and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Gene Cain, brothers: Mark and Ronnie Cain, mother Jane Cain, uncle Deac Cain, sister-in-law Diane Cain, father-in-law Fred Kaufmann, and dear friend Jimmy Shotwell.
