Jeanie & family:
I am so sorry for your dad's passing. He was a good friend to me and my mom, Goldie Hayes. We both enjoyed his personality and information when we asked it. He was knowledgeable in many ways & on many subjects. With my mom's passing in 2014, I had a friend in him as I did not have my own transportation and when I had to move to Muscatine to the homeless shelter, he helped me with that and brought most of the things that I had left in his van down to Muscatine, with a couple of exceptions, when my husband and I moved into our apartment near 8th & Cedar Streets.
Funny how some of the items I had left in his van that he said would stay there that winter of 2016-2017 were not there when he brought the rest of them down to us in June of 2017. I had a cart for taking books and groceries home and to the library that I had purchased from Aldi's in Iowa City, and it was not there. He had no idea where it had gone, and later looked for it, to no avail. I said it looked like it had removed itself to somewhere else, and gave up on that. I had also left 6 of my favorite movies in a plastic bag that I had wanted to view later, but could not find that either. We figured the sack was with the 4-wheeled cart and they went off together, never to be seen again by him or me.
Again, I am sorry for your father's passing and for your other relatives grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was a good & honest man who kept his word. I liked him very much. He will be missed in West Liberty and anywhere else he frequently was seen, Dairy Queen in Iowa City, HyVee, and other places.
Due to my husband and I not receiving the Index, and only the "Voice of Muscatine" on a regular basis, I did not learn of his passing until today, June 12, 2018.
When he is ushered into Heaven, he will be giving lectures to everyone he meets especially when asked historical questions, and they will love his knowledge, too.

We will miss Conrad! He was so good to us and the puppets. He helped us build displays for the parade. He not only donated to the Children's Festival, he created a giant sandbox full of toys many years in a row. He educated us about the history of our building. He even attended our shows! It was a privilege to know him!
