Zelma was born September 27th, 1916 in Riverside Iowa to parents Mary Heitzman Schnoebelen and Theodore George Schnoebelen. The eldest of nine children, Zelma attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Riverside. She was united in marriage to Lorren Kenneth Burr on February 2, 1940 and they made their home in rural Johnson County. To them were born five daughters.
Zelma made a loving home while being active civically and in her church. Zelma’s devotion to her family led her to many hours supporting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren – whether it be in 4-H, sports, music or plays. An accomplished seamstress, she could hand stitch an heirloom quilt, create a prom dress, design Halloween outfits or patch Lorren’s overalls all with ease.
Zelma will be remembered lovingly by her five daughters Barbara (Larry) Wise, Virginia Miehe, Donna (Jerry) Kaalberg, Phyllis (Michael) Selby and Rhonda (Kevin) Case. Also surviving are four sisters Delores Kempf, Dorothy Johnson, Frances Self and Anita Mehaffey, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband Lorren Burr, son-in-law Douglas Miehe, great granddaughter Kylen Miehe, brothers Alvin, Herb, Verne and sister Colletta.
