Richard Calvin "Tink" Hinty, 91, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch.
Visitation will be held Monday from 9 to 11 A.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch with the funeral service to follow at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Momodu Kamara and Ruth Blayer officiating. Family burial will be held in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Richard Hinty Memorial Fund. Richard was born October 6, 1926 in Oasis, Iowa the son of John Calvin and Lera (Wren) Hinty. He was a graduate of Springdale High School in the Class of 1945. Richard proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and served overseas in Italy. On November 6, 1949 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Eva Eves in Tipton, celebrating 68 years together.
Tink attended Spartan School of Aeronautics at Tulsa, Oklahoma and received an aircraft engine mechanics license. He never accepted the job offer in California as he wanted to stay in Iowa, so worked as an automobile mechanic his entire life and later as a bus driver for the West Branch School System. He was a member of Springdale United Methodist Church and American Legion Post # 514. He enjoyed his license ham radio, auto racing, assembling of electronic kits and mowing his yard.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn of Springdale, one daughter Connie Pace and her husband Jim Kruzic of Pleasantville, Iowa. Two grandchildren: Jessica (Luke) Whitney Seymour, Iowa and Seth (Lindsey) Pace Nevada, Iowa, two great granddaughters: Ava Grace and Ella Raye Whitney. Preceded in death by his parents, two Sisters: Lorene A. Hannah of Natural Bridge, Virginia and Elizabeth Cohu of Colorado.
