I just recently was informed of Fergie's passing. He was a fantastic track coach, and the reason for my success. At any given meet, he could tell you who would win as soon as the gun went off. He was totally dedicated to our High School and his profession. Thank God for all the others like him.

My prayers and condolences to the family of Mr. Ferguson. As a little girl growing up in Missouri Valley, Mr. Ferguson was one of my first coaches. He introduced me to the sports I still love today and taught his team to work hard. My love for sports grew from my early experiences with his encouragement and I remember him as a good coach. I appreciate the patience he had with kids and his devotion to helping girls sports excel. He will be missed by all.

So sorry for your loss. Besides all Harland's other wonderful contributions to society, he was also a volunteer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. This is where I meet him. He was a great addition to our volunteers on Monday mornings.

My condolences on the passing of Harlan. I worked with him in Le Mars, especially in the later years when he worked with the Iowa Conservation Corps. I taught Ag/FFA and they frequently worked out of my shop on projects. He was always a joy to be around.

What a great man Harlan was. I had the privilege of coaching MS girls track with Harlan as I began my teaching and coaching career in the early 90's at LCS. As a young new teacher/coach, Harlan took me under his wing and tried to teach me right vs. wrong on a daily basis. I am still coaching MS girls track at LeMars and a big reason why is because I had the opportunity to learn and grow so much from Harlan. I continue to think about him year after year as many of the things he taught me I still use today. Thanks Harlan and Rest in Peace

Myrna and family,
My deepest sympathy on the loss of Harlan. What great memories he and I made working together for 6 years at the Alternative High School in LeMars. His ability to make a connection with all kids truly made him that special teacher who had the respect of all. Praying for peace and hoping the memories bring you happiness.

Curt and family - so sorry for your loss. Coach Ferguson will always be remembered as a teacher, coach, and mentor. A kind yet firm coach that always seemed to bring the best out of everyone not only in their chosen sport but also mentored those on how to be the best human that they could. May he rest in peace and continue to "coach" from Heaven.

Harlan was such a wonderful man and neighbor here in LeMars. Our girls went to Gehlen so they never had the opportunity to have him coach them but in reading the comments here and on Facebook it is even more clear how he had such a positive effect on so many young lives. I know having him as friend and neighbor certainly was good for our family. Harlan was always taking time to talk with our son, the little kid always hanging out from down the street. Our deepest sympathies to Myrna and the entire family.

Myrna and family - I am so sorry for your loss. Harlan was always so nice when I was a kid down the block in Le Mars. I still remember hanging out in his woodshop, building random little things. I think Mom still has the "jewelry box" I built. You and the family are in my prayers!

Was sorry to learn today (Tue) of Harlan's death. We both certainly enjoyed Harlan and Myrna during their time at Springdale United Methodist Church. Jim remembers discussing some of his memories surrounding wrestling. When we both spoke to Myrna today on the phone it was good to hear the voice that sounded so much like we remembered.
Due to work Jim is unable to attend Visitation/Funeral. Ruth will see you on Thursday.
Blessings...

My sympathies to Myrna, Curt, Candy and Colleen. You gave up a lot of time with your husband/dad so that he could be with us. I hope he had half as much fun as we did. My fondest memories have to be with softball. Will never forget spending an overnight in his hometown of Laurens and staying with the corresponding position player on their team. Rest easy, Coach

Myrna and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Coach's passing. I was so happy to reconnect with him after your move to West Branch. I will always be thankful for everything he did for Tiffany to enable her to be the best she could be. I enjoyed all our conversations and sharing memories of the old days in track. He will remain in my thoughts forever. He was such a character I'm sure there will be no shortage of stories. God bless you and may all the memories and stories and all the love of family and friends uphold you during this difficult time. Love, Renee

Missing my old teacher, coach, traveling, partying, buddy already. Won't ever forget all the good times, fun that we had together. Oh.., those trips to the Cotton and Sugar Bowl were great. A lot of nice memories of our families being together. Thanks to you and Myrna for everything that you did for our family.
