Edwin L. Askam, 94, died Wednesday May 6, 2009 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Saturday May 9, 2009 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the West Liberty Rescue Unit.

Edwin was born September 8, 1914 near Nichols, Iowa the son of Reuben and Zella Stephens Askam. He served in the US Army during WWII stationed in the South Pacific. He had farmed in the Cedar Valley area his entire life. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising Rowan Ducks.

Survivors include one sister: Doris McCann of West Liberty and a brother: Leon Askam of Tucson, Arizona. 10 nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rita Herrold, three brothers Robert, Donald and Virgil and a nephew Mike Askam.
