Muscatine, Iowa Raymond Roger Porter, 86, formerly of Nichols died Saturday May 2, 2009 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Nichols United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nichols United Methodist Church. Raymond was born December 17, 1922 in Conesville, Iowa the son of James David and Lottie DeVault Ulch Porter. He attended Lacey Country School and graduated from Nichols High School. On October 19, 1947 he was united in marriage to Letha Reynolds in Nichols. Ray had been employed in the livestock feed business for many years, working for several companies before beginning Porter Livestock Products in 1980. He was a lifelong resident of Nichols until moving to Muscatine in the fall of 2000. He was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church, he enjoyed going the the Community Y, socializing; and joining his coffee group at McDonalds. He is survived by; 3 children: LouCinda Lou (Dan) Ruess of West Liberty, John (Barbara Elder) Porter of Nichols, Iowa; and Lynn (Scott) Harmon of Muscatine; 6 grandchildren: Matt Ruess, Jeanna McQuillen, Adam Ruess, Emily Daufeldt, Madelyn Harmon and Olivia Harmon; and 9 great grandchildren. Three sisters: Mary Jane (Ken) Ruess of West Liberty, Jean Maher of Marion, and Helene (Jack) Salemink of Nichols. Three Brothers: Lee (Louise) Ulch of Gladbrook, Iowa, Warren Porter of Wheatland and James (Geraldine) Porter of Spokane, Washington. Also surviving his a special friend Ramona Richter of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Letha in 2004, son Raymond Scott, and Three brothers: Ardell Ulch, William Porter and John Porter.
