West Liberty, Iowa Betty C. Akers, 94, died Sunday April 14, 2013 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday April 18, 2013 at the First Church United in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Wednesday 4 to 7 P.M. at the First Church United, 1100 North Calhoun St., West Liberty . Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to West Liberty Fire and Rescue Unit, Ronald McDonald House or University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Betty was born the daughter of Victor and Ethel Cling. She attended Eddyville High School and later the University of Iowa, William Penn College and Beauty School in Des Moines. On October 12, 1941 Betty was united in marriage to Ralph Akers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She had taught in Country School near Eddyville, worked as a bookkeeper for the Ford Implement Dealership, Ford Garage, West Liberty Ready Mix and served as the Librarian at the West Liberty Library for over 35 years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Church United, Eastern Star, Rotary, T.T.T. Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by one son Joe (JoAnne) Akers, two grandchildren: Bret Akers and his significant other Linda Coudron, and Brad (Mindy) Akers all of West Liberty. 6 great grandchildren: Gibson Akers, Alie Akers, Abie Akers, Macy Akers, McKinzie Akers and Joseph Akers. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ralph.
