West Branch, Iowa Evelyn Marie Wessel, 76, died Monday April 20, 2009 surrounded by her family at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is in charge of arrangements. Evelyn was born April 7, 1933 at the family home in Centreville, Maryland the daughter of Joseph and Phoebe Middleton Walker. She was a graduate of Centreville High School. She was united in marriage to Thomas Robert Wessel in 1952. Evelyn had been employed with Tidewater Publishing for 23 years in Maryland. In 1994 she moved to the area to live with her son. Survivors include one son Thomas Wessel of West Branch. Daughter-in-Law: Susan Wessel of Centreville, Maryland. Two sisters: Joyce Trader of Laurel, Delaware and Ruth Hunter of Chester, Maryland. 4 grandchildren: Stephanie Wessel of Centreville, Maryland, Katie Jones of West Branch, Rita Jones of West Branch and Joey Fountain of West Branch. She is also survived by her best friend and companion Zoey. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, two sons: Steven Feb. 6, 1990 and Michael Aug. 5, 2008.
