West Branch, lowa Evelyn O. Benda, 85, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. March 26, 2013 at the Henderson- Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 P.M. At the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Evelyn was bom February 1, 1928 near West Branch the daughter of Joseph and Edna (Lumpa) Vikel. She grew up on the family farm South of West Branch and was a graduate of West Branch High school. On February 27, 1957 she was united in marriage to Charles “Rusty” Benda in Iowa City. They continued to live with her parents and cared for them until their death. She enjoyed gardening, caring for the animals on the farm, baking, shopping, visiting and was always willing to help others. She is survived by two children: Joe Benda of West Liberty and Charlene (Terry) Hamer of West Branch. 4 grandchildren: Jenna, Charlie and Jill Hamer and Olivia Benda. One great grandson: Hunter Hamer and Sister: Doris (George) Heick of West Branch. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Charles and a brother Earl Vikel.
