Nichols, Iowa Michael D. Carter, 61, of Nichols, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30PM on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nichols Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Mike was born November 5, 1951 the son of Donald and Colleen Nixon Carter. He attended school in Lone Tree and then in West Liberty where he graduated in 1971, he later attended mechanic’s school in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Janette Kennard in 2006 in Las Vegas. He retired from City Carton in Iowa City where he worked as a diesel mechanic. Mike loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to the casino where he especially liked playing blackjack. Mike also enjoyed hunting, mowing, and going to the races in West Liberty, where he never missed a race. He is survived by his wife Janette of Nichols, 3 daughters: Holly Carter of Cincinnati, Ohio, Heather Carter and grandson Aidan of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Hannah Carter and granddaughter Maci of Riverside, Iowa; a brother Pat (Margaret) Carter of West Liberty and a special nephew Josh (Missy) Carter of Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Linda.
