West Liberty, Iowa Ruth C. Barkhurst, 96, died Monday November 26, 2012 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday November 30, 2012 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or American Cancer Society. Ruth was born March 30, 1916 near West Liberty the daughter of Ray and Mary Barnes Rockafellow. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1933. On June 5, 1935 she was united in marriage to Harold Barkhurst in West Liberty, he died on January 30, 1991. She had been employed with Proctor and Gamble in Iowa City for over 20 years, retiring in 1977. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters: Carol (Fred) Miller and Wanda (Wayne) Jarrard both of Atalissa, Iowa, Son: Kenneth (Diane) Barkhurst of Huntley, Illinois. 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 5 (1 expected) great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Harold, brother and sister-in-law: Lowell and Irene Rockafellow, brother and sister-in-law: Lester and Nadine Rockafellow.
