West Liberty, Iowa Mark Eugene “Hoss” Hons, 53, died Thursday October 4, 2012 at his home near West Liberty following an extended illness. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday October 8, 2012 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. No funeral services will be held. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established. Mark will be missed by all. A very special thanks to Betty, Nancy and Diana Sprague of Mercy Services and Joan, Christy, Steve and Maurie of Iowa City Hospice. Mark was born January 29, 1959 the son of Max and Phyllis West Hons. In 1977 he was a graduate of Woodbury Central High School in Moville, Iowa. Hoss moved to West Liberty in August 1981 to work for Ken and Linda Minor who became like a 2nd set of parents to him, and for whom he worked for 18 ½ years. He then went to Stutsman’s Inc in Hills from 2000-2004. On April 13, 1985 he was united in marriage to the former Shelly Severson in West Liberty and they had three children, Brittney, Lindsey and Max. He loved to golf, hunt and fish with friends before his health deteriorated. Mark was a jokester and like playing practical jokes. Survivors include his wife Shelly of West Liberty. Three children: Brittney and Lindsey of Cedar Falls and Max of West Liberty. Three sisters: Diane (Chuck) Ashley and Nancy (Tim) Weaver of Moville and Jeannine Hons of Kirkland, WA. Stepfather Verlyn Schmidt of Moville, Step sister Sherry (Randy) Beaver and step brother Rick Schmidt both of Moville as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in laws Robert and June Severson of West Liberty. Sister-in-law: Mindy (Dean) Heick of West Liberty and brother in law Mike (Marci) Severson of Wilton, a niece and three nephews. Three very special friends who were like family Jason Wulf of Gary, Indiana, Renee Wulf Miller of Iowa City and Troy Wulf of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his father Max who died when Mark was 6 years old and mother Phyllis Hons Schmidt, and a niece Michelle Wood.
