West Liberty, Iowa George C. Smith, 75, died Saturday September 1, 2012 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. A celebration of life will be held at 7 P.M. Wednesday September 5. 2012 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice. George was born June 25, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of George Wesley and Goldie Henrietta Stevens Smith. He was a graduate of Nichols High School in the Class of 1955. In 1957 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Midkiff, they later divorced. George had been employed for many years with Plank Implement in Columbus City and had also farmed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Nichols, Ducks Unlimited, Turkey Federation, White Tails Unlimited, N.R.A. and was a founding member of the Nichols Community Club. Survivors include his four children: Melodi (Mark) Kopf of West Liberty, Wesley (Terri) Smith of Tipton, Bryan (Kris) Smith of Nichols and Susan (Randy Meade) Smith of West Liberty. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and an expected great granddaughter in November. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
