George E. Bowie, 66, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the North Liberty Cemetery located in rural West Branch. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Memorials can be made to the Springdale United Methodist Church or the West Branch FFA. George was born November 5, 1942 in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Mary Anderson Bowie. He was united in marriage to Roberta May Kundel on March 30, 1968 in Eldridge, Iowa. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1961 and later Iowa State College in 1967. George farmed in the West Branch area his entire life. He was a member of the Springdale United Methodist Church. He was a honorable member of the FFA, a past board member of the Cedar County Pork Producers Association and was a recipient of the American Farmer Degree. He is survived by his wife: Roberta of West Branch; daughter: Patti (Joel) Edge of West Branch and grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Brady; daughter: Barbara (Mike) Connolly of Mount Vernon and grandchildren: Cody and Karlyn; and son: Cliff Bowie of West Branch and grandchild: Lucy. He is also survived by two brothers: Jim (Maureen) Bowie of Tipton and Bob (Kathy) Bowie of Moscow. He was preceded in death by his parents.
