West Branch, Iowa Evelyn Jane Mitchell, 92, died Friday April 20, 2012 at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday April 24, 2012 at the West Branch United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 P.M. At the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the West Branch United Methodist Church. Evelyn was born July 17, 1919 in Cedar County, Iowa the daughter of Jacob Levi and Ethel M. Burkholder Thumma. She attended country school and West Branch school. On May 8, 1937 she was united in marriage at West Branch to Elmer Mitchell. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Home Social Club, Card Club. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, country music and spending time with her family. Survivors include two children: Donald (Diane) Mitchell of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Beverly (Doug) Hastings of West Branch. 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild also survives. Sister: M. Fern Stubbs of Tipton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Howard who was killed during WWII and sister Martha Paulsen.
