West Liberty, Iowa Donald E. Maas, 81, died Sunday March 11, 2012 at his home in West Liberty. A memorial service will be held 11 A.M. Friday March 16, 2012 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Iowa city Hospice or the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Donald was born August 11, 1930 in Kalona, Iowa the son of Meredith and Florence Bontrager Maas. He was a graduate of Kalona High School in 1948 and graduated from a Herdsman course from Iowa State University. On January 8, 1955 he was united in marriage to Patricia Walker, they later divorced in 2000. Don had farmed all his life in the Kalona and Nichols areas, he was also a licensed Real Estate Agent with Iowa Realty. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a 50+ year member of the Shriners. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and playing poker. Survivors include 5 children: Jerry (Carolyn) Maas of Lindale, Texas, Tom (Marla) Maas of West Liberty, Kenny Maas of Winona, Texas, Julie Maas of Overton, Texas and Maridyth (Tim) Harder of Enumclaw, Washington. 7 Grandchildren: Pete Maas, Katrina Maas, Jennifer Maas Driscoll, Austin Maas, Makenzie Maas, Jaslyn Harder and Brianne Harder. Also surviving are 6 great grandchildren, Sister: Rita Howe of Riverside, sister-in-law: Donna Maas of Kalona and a special friend Charlotte Smith of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Melinda Maas and brother Meredith Maas Jr.
