As a foolish young boy, I thought Nancy was making Dave and I do her gardening chores so she didn't have to. Today, I realize she did it to build work ethic for two future men. I scrapped up a little money on eary mornings before Jr. High basketball practice to buy toast to go with my ice water at the R&R restuarant, but when Nancy was there, my order mysteriously including something more. She always took it upon herself to care and assist others, but with little fanfare. She knew good deeds and a kind heart didn't need praise or notice, she just did it because it was the right thing to do and that was what she was all about.
Often, our selfishness gets in the way because we realize we're deeply going to miss our loved one. We wouldn't be humans who love one another if we didn't grief. However, as hard as it may be, we must take comfort in knowing that she is truly in God's presence. We can't blame ourselves for what we did or didn't do before Nancy left us, or what we didn't get to say, because life doesn't evolve around our schedules, it's God's plan and we all must follow it - knowing someday we'll all be reunited. And right now, God decided Colton needed his grandmother more than we need her. When we think of Nancy's life, we should smile, when we think of Nancy's eternal life, we should cry tears of great joy and amazement.
