Fred George Steen died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following an extended illness. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in West Liberty. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00PM on Sunday, December 21, 2008 with a Masonic Service at 4:00PM at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. Fred was born October 15, 1921 in West Liberty, the son of George and Mary Steen. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the class of 1939. On August 3, 1963 he was united in marriage to the former Joyce MacGowan. Fred was president of George Steen & Sons, Inc., a hybrid seed business. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Scottish Rite and the Kaaba Shrine of Davenport and was also a 50 year member and past master of the Masonic Lodge. Fred was a long time worker in the Grain and Seeds Division at the Muscatine County Fair. He is survived by his wife Joyce, two brothers: Jay Steen and Logan Steen of West Liberty, a sister Pauline Waters of Downey, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ethel Bein of Davenport.
