West Liberty, Iowa Virgil D. Meyers, 76, died Thursday September 29, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Monday October 3, 2011 at the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church, West Liberty. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church or Muscatine County Fair. Virgil was born January 1, 1935 near West Liberty, Iowa the son of Clifton E. and Evelyn Askam Meyers. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the Class of 1953. On February 14, 1959 he was united in marriage to Peggy Welch at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline, Illinois. He had farmed south of West Liberty his entire life, being the fourth generation to farm. He was a 50+ year member of the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, Muscatine County Cattleman’s Association and Iowa Cattleman’s Association and had served with the US Army Reserve. He enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities, working his cattle, doing custom corn silage and John Deere tractors. Survivors include his wife Peggy Meyers of West Liberty. Three sons: Joe (Cindy) Meyers of West Liberty, Mike (Pam) Meyers of West Liberty and Matt (Marcy) Meyers of Madison, Wisconsin. 8 Grandchildren: Kelsey, Avery, Katie, Brent, Madeline, McKenna, Courtney and Trevor. Brother: George (Janet) Meyers of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents.
