Thomas E. Hamer, 55, died Monday November 10, 2008 at his home following a brief illness.

Funeral mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in West Branch with Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch where a rosary will be recited at 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Riverside. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Tom was born October 2, 1953 in Iowa City the son of Robert and Patricia Shebek Hamer. He was a graduate of West Branch High School. On May 20, 1978 he was united in marriage to the former Colleen Bertling.

He had owned and operated Hamer Trucking for many years. He enjoyed BBQ cooking, watching dirt track racers #25 and #20 and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Colleen. Two daughters: Amie Hamer and Katie (Chad) Simpson. Two Grandchildren: Peyton and Clay Simpson. His Mother: Patricia Hamer, Six Brothers: Steve (Karen) Hamer, Terry (Charlene) Hamer, Tim (Tammi) Hamer, Rob (Barb) Hamer, Dean (Denise) Hamer, Jamie (Jessica) Hamer and Two sisters: Deb (Virgil) Mills and Barb (Mike) Paul. Three Brother-in-Laws: Dave (Sharleen) Bertling, Gary (Joyce) Bertling and Roger (Alexa Shabecoff) Bertling. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Hamer.
