West Liberty, Iowa Gerald P. “Jew” Leggins, 86, formerly of Atalissa died Monday November 3, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday November 6, 2008 at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Memorials may be made to Elder Services. Gerald Phillip Leggins was born November 5, 1921 in Grinnell, Iowa the son of William and Lillian Marticke Leggins. He attended Atalissa High School and served in the United States Army-Calvary from Oct 21, 1942 – Oct 21, 1945. On June 6, 1948 he was united in marriage to the former Evelyn Henderson in West Liberty. Gerald and Evelyn lived in Atalissa for many years prior to moving to West Liberty. He had been employed at Otto’s Quarry, Pantel Ready Mix and for many years Liqui Grow in West Liberty, Walcott and Durant until his retirement. Survivors include Daughter: Nancy (Phil) Coffman of Cedar Rapids, Son: Tom (Kristin) Leggins of Lawrence, Kansas. Six grandchildren: Justin and Heather Coffman, Brock, Bryce, Pace and Pride Leggins. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, Son Tim, Sister Ova Leggins and Three Brothers: Gaylord, Cleo and Kenneth.
