Hazel E. Stewart, 88, died Tuesday September 30, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday October 4, 2008 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. A memorial fund has been established.
Hazel was born January 17, 1920 in Wilton Jct. the daughter of George Essley and Rosina Hagerman Rick. On March 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Herman “Sandy” Stewart in Muscatine.
She was a bookkeeper most of her life, working for the Atalissa Telephone Company, Liqui-Gro, and their trucking business Stewart Trucking. She was an active member of the Atalissa Presbyterian Church, serving as past president of the United Presbyterian Women as well as the youth fellowship group. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America where she held several offices.
Hazel enjoyed her garden, gathering walnuts, collecting recipes, writing and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and spent much time babysitting.
She is survived by three daughters: Sandra (Lloyd) VanDusen of Atalissa, Betty “BJ” Stewart of Atalissa and Rita (Kirk) Hahnbaum of Muscatine, 6 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. One sister: Mildred Faye Keine of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Herman and one Brother: George Elwood Rick.
