Donald Leroy Thompson, 93, passed away Thursday September 11, 2008 at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch after a long and rewarding life. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday September 15, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Branch. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church. Donald was born November 21, 1914 in West Branch the son of Jens and Thyra Jensen Thompson. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School. On February 19, 1938 he was united in marriage to the former Fern Pedersen. The couple farmed in the West Branch area all their lives. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Survivors include two daughters: Deanna (Paul) Weismann of West Branch and Carol (Phil) Gilmer of Bloomington, Minnesota. 5 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren: Dr. Brian (Gail) Weismann and their children Emma, Tess and Will of Valparaiso, Indiana, Julie (Ron) Reimann and their children Maren, Erik, and Thor of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Melissa Weismann of Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. David (Katherine) Gilmer and their daughter Anna of Winona, Minnesota and Mark Gilmer of Bloomington, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fern in 2002 and 2 brothers Floyd and Wilfred.
