Jack Q. Blair, 87, died Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established.
Jack was born November 26, 1926 in Mt. Zion, Iowa, the son of John and Ferne Foster Blair. He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1944. Jack then went on to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War ll. After the war, he attended Iowa State College for 2 years. Jack was united in marriage to Beverly Borgstadt on October 7, 1951 in Sweetland, Iowa. Jack and Beverly farmed together in the West Liberty area.
Jack was a member of the West Liberty Lions Club and the Muscatine County Committee of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service during the early 1980’s. He served on the board of Farm Bureau as well as the West Liberty School Board in 1967-68. He also served as chairman of the board of Cedar Valley United Methodist Church where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, sons: Steve Blair of West Liberty, Jim (Terri) Blair of West Liberty and Mike (Nancy) Blair of Humboldt, Iowa; grandchildren: Amy (Travis) Heavin, Kevin (Sara) Blair, and Laura, Daniel and Erica Blair, great grandchildren: Alex, Gus and Atticus Heavin and Kennedi Blair. He is also survived by his sister Marcella Gow of South Carolina and a brother Marvin (Donna) Blair of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Larry, daughter-in-law Joy, grandson Brian, niece Laura and nephew Wesley.
