West Liberty, Iowa John B. Willson, 78, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty with a visitation at 10:00AM. A graveside service will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or a conservation/hunting organization of choice. John was born June 11, 1932 in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Armour M. and Esther P. Browne Willson. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1949 having attended public schools there and in Fairfield, Iowa. He graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1954 with a B.A., having previously attended the University of Iowa where he met Katherine Brookhart. They were united in marriage on August 2, 1955, at the Old Brick Church in Iowa City. John and Katherine first lived in Kansas City, with his career then taking the couple to Chicago and Richmond, Virginia. They later moved to Fairfield, Iowa and finally West Liberty, Iowa where John retired in 1993. John was a member of First Church United in West Liberty, the NRA and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trap and skeet shooting competitions. He also enjoyed the harmonies of barbershop quartet singing and was at one time a member of a quartet. He is survived by his wife Katherine, of West Liberty, daughter Esther Willson of Brookfield, Missouri, brother-in-law J. Keith Brookhart and his wife Janet of Muscatine, a niece and 2 nephews and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
