Darlene was the comic of our Heart Transplant Support group at the U of Iowa. She always had something to say to cheer us on and thru our hard times and the waiting for transplant. Enjoyed her humor and dedication. Sympathy and love to her family.

Aunt Dar was always looking to have fun. I probably gave her several near miss heart attacks when I was a kid scaring her at the farm in LaMotte hiding behind the gates in the lane or under the bed in the bedroom to grab an ankle as she was preparing to call it a night. I will miss you Aunt Dar. Keep watch from above on all our family.

You have my sympathy. Darlene was inspirational in her will to live. I'm sorry that her life was challenged with continuous healthcare woes and yet she was playful! God be with you all.

I have had a couple of comments about the pic used for her obit...to set your mind at ease...if you knew Dar you would know that she would have loved it!!! Mike and Brian picked it because they thought it was so typical of the way she looked at life and everything....and she said she wanted to leave people laughing!!! She didn't want everyone to always be sad and to be happy....so it's one last gesture from her to get a laugh from people! She would have loved it!!!! To my big sister....I have always loved you and I always will, and I will miss you so much....I know you understood how I felt and how hard it was for me because you told me you did and that you loved me too...and I am glad we had time to talk about it. Now you are with God and Mom, Dad, Baby Jerry, Travis, and our Grandparents and other loved ones...but you will always be in my heart forever!!! I LOVE YOU DAR!

Jerry, Mike, Brian & Camela and family -
I wanted to share another dreamcatcher story with you. Alex has been having a very hard time going to sleep lately, so last night we got the dreamcatcher that Dar made for Thomas when he was little. Alex thought it was very special that Aunt Dar had made it. I told him that she was watching over him to make sure he had good dreams. He said "Thank you Aunt Dar" and put it beside his head on the pillow. He slept with it there all night. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We loved her very much!

To all of Darlene's family, I wish you comfort. I'll never forget when I moved to the farm with my small children and they were scared at night. Darlene made them all Dream Catchers to hang in their windows, and they slept soundly ever after. I had told her about the kids being scared, and out of the goodness of her heart she helped us out. I will miss her kind spirit!

Jerry, Mike, Brian & Camela and kids - I am so, so sorry. But...I do have to say Darlene made me laugh one more time! To be honest, she has made me laugh so many times over the years when I was growing up...between her and Scott - I would be laughing so hard I cried. This time though it was just with tears and a smidge of a smile, but she did get one last one from me! Dar & my dad both gave me my love of horses that they fed ever since I was young, in fact my best present from her was letting me have Duchess for those years, as a young girl - that horse was a God-send & my best friend. We went down to get her from you when you lived in Mississippi. When I was really little, Jamie the pony was another treat she shared with me, my first cowboy boots and outfit, so many play horses over those years too. I loved her humor and she was so giving & so strong. I loved it when she came up to stay with us in LaMotte, some of my best memories with her...most laughter ever. You know if you need anything, please just let me know & we will be there. Please call me. Sending you lots of love & prayers, Missy, Pat & family
