Tae and Joyce, and family my thoughts and prayers are with you.
A very memorable part of my teen age life was with Ray and Tae (Shortly before Jerry, and Joyce arrived in the family) as I would spend Monday morning until Saturday afternoon with them. It was during the summer months after my 10th and 11th grades at WBHS. I have vivid memories of their kindness and constant concern for my well-being.
When giving me a new task, Ray would always stand-by until he was satisfied that I could do it safely and successfully. I was aware his primary concern was safety. He would enjoy joking with me, never at my expense as a “put down” but in fun with both of us laughing. For example, when I returned for lunch after my first morning of cultivating newly sprouted corn he asked me, “Did you plow out more that you plowed under?” After I paused with a perplexed look on my face, Tae would interject, “Ray, Stop It!” and we would all have a good laugh.
When I think back on those two summers, my first thought ais of the meals Tae would fix for us. No wonder I was ready for a late summer and fall work-out in sports at WBHS.
You “Little” boy of many years ago.
Respectfully, Jim

Oh,the wonderful memories of "Ray and Tae" in the "Little House." I'll not forget planting potatoes and picking sweet corn with Ray...and we did it be the bushels full.
We're thinking of you at this time of Ray's death. His smile and gentle heart remains with us here.

I worked for many years with Ray at the University of Iowa Hospital. I was young at the time and I always looked up to Ray. I admired his tireless work ethic, his honesty, and his level-headed common sense. I think I learned a lot from him during those years; about anesthesia equipment, how to live your life, and how to work with others.
I've thought about him many times since he retired from the Dept. of Anesthesiology and I hope his years after then were full of good health and joy. I wish I had looked him up as I've always wanted to tell him about the impact he had on my life.
I've often wondered what he did after leaving the hospital, since he never struck me as the type to sit still for very long. Somehow I'm guessing it included a cigar from time to time.
He was a great man who truly had an impact on my life. I'm sure he will be missed greatly.
