West Branch, Iowa Glenn E. Pedersen, 85, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City. Services will be at 11:00AM on Monday, April 11, 2011 at the West Branch United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 1:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Glenn’s memory. Glenn was born on March 9, 1926, in West Branch, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Gina Anderson Pedersen. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1944. Glenn was united in marriage to Cora Frances Eden on February 11, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa. Glenn was a staff sergeant in the United States Army and a veteran of World War II. He served in the 43rd Infantry Division and was among the first American troops to enter Japan after that country’s surrender in 1945. After his service in the army, Glenn returned to Cedar County, Iowa to farm the land where he was born. He was privileged to own and farm on two Century Farms. He farmed this land along with others in the area with his son Randy until his retirement in 2000. Glenn later moved to Iowa City in 2009 and enjoyed many winters in Clearwater, Florida with his wife Cora from 1990-2003. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Iowa Farm Bureau and the American Legion Chauncey Butler Post 514. He was a member of the Springdale and West Branch United Methodist Churches and served many years as a leader in 4-H. Glenn is survived by his wife Cora, son Randy (Kathy) Pedersen of West Branch, daughter Jane (Bill) Jahnke of Milwaukee, WI, son Russ (Cathy) Pedersen of Kansas City, MO, 9 grandchildren: Kristy, Joshua, Jacob, Aaron, Alyson, Tyler, Andrew, Jack and Darby, and 8 great grandchildren: Skylar, Isabel, Caleb, Noah, Lilah, Rob, Liam and Amelia. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Cleo, Gene and Duane Pedersen.
