Gertrude E. Digney, 92, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Gertrude was born on September 15, 1918 in rural Muscatine, the daughter of Ernie and Minnie Albrecht Herlein. She was united in marriage to William Digney on July 30, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa. Gertrude did home cleaning and later worked at Louis Rich Foods as an office cleaner for 18 ½ years. She was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed having family dinners together.

Survivors include her children Donna (Joe) Dickey of Palm Bay, Florida, Larry (Dianne) Digney of Walcott, Iowa, Jerry Digney of Woodstock, Illinois, Barbara (Max) Totemeier, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, daughter-in-law Linda (Tom) Kaalberg of West Liberty, Iowa, siblings Anna May (Richard) Shield of Atalissa, Iowa, Ralph Herlein, Leo (Ruth) Herlein, Florence (Kenneth) Swanson, Edna (Bud) Rexroth all of Muscatine, Iowa and Helen Mills of Cedar Town, Georgia. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Digney, son Ron Digney, sisters Lillian Herlein, Ruth Fuller and Dorothy Morse and great grandson Brandt Dickey.

Her family would like to express their thanks to the staff of the Simpson Memorial Home for their loving care of Gertrude.
