Nellie L. Lowery, 97, died Thursday July 24, 2008 at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Family inurnment was in the West Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Nellie was born January 28, 1911 near West Point, Iowa the daughter of Daniel and Mary Kroll Wilson. She was a graduate of Donnellson High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught country school for 2 years. On May 22, 1932 she was united in marriage to Glenn E. Lowery in Monmouth, Illinois. The couple lived in Iowa City moving to West Branch in 1953. She was employed with the West Branch School System as a cook for 19 years.

Survivors include 6 children: Ruby Franke of West Branch, Mina (John) Emde of Iowa City, Lonnie Lowery of Ramona, Calif., Betty (Marvin) Hutmacher of Freeport, Illinois, Sarah (Raymond) Downing of Des Moines and Leroy (Patricia) Lowery of DeWitt. 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, Daughter-in-law Helen, Granddaughter Cheryl Ann, 4 Brothers Roy, Lee, Delbert and Floyd, 3 sisters Marie, Suzanna and an infant.
