Fred Miller, 83, died Monday November 25, 2013 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday November 30, 2013 at the First Church United in West Liberty. Visitation will be held 4:30 - 7:30 P.M. Friday at the First Church United. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the West Liberty Fire Dept. or West Liberty Lions Club.
Fredrick William Miller was born September 13, 1930 the son of Adna and Beryl Williams Miller. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1948. On October 13, 1951 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Gonse, she passed away in 1977. He was later married to Carol Barkhurst Roberts on October 20, 1979.
Fred worked and lived in West Liberty all his life. For several years was the manager of the West Liberty Creamery. He later started his own business, Fred’s Feed and Supply on February 14, 1966 that he operated until 1996 when he turned the business over to his boys. Fred still continued to come into the store every day until he became ill in February.
Fred was a member of Muscatine County Fair Board and is a honorary member of the board. He was past president of the West Liberty Chamber of Commerce, member and past president of West Liberty Lions Club and a 39 year member of the West Liberty Fire Dept. Member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and later First Church United. He was the founder of the West Liberty Farmers Market. His family and his business was the primary focus of his life. He also enjoyed his time on his acreage east of West Liberty.
Survivors include his wife Carol Miller of Atalissa. Three children: Rhonda (Ron) Jensen of West Liberty, Bruce (Sue) Miller of Muscatine and Larry Miller of West Liberty. Two stepchildren: Melody(Curt) Klusmeyer of Janesville, WI and Brian Roberts of Atalissa. 4 grandchildren: Megan (Jens) Zalzala, Wade Jensen, Kirsten Jensen and Dusty (Katherine) Brooks. Four great grandchildren: Ty, Cale, Kaden Brooks and Jolene Zalzala. Two sisters: Kay (Bill) Hart of Davenport and Shirley (Bob) Heick of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Phyllis.
