Nichols, Iowa
Adeline Brenneman, 98, of Atrium Village in Hills where she had been a resident for over 2 years and formerly of Nichols died July 9, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday July 12, 2008 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty where visitation will be held from 9 until 11 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nichols First Responders and the Fire Station.
Adeline was born August 20, 1909 in Montpelier, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Alvina Schiesser Rathjen. She had attended school through the 8th grade at Willow Grove country school, rural Nichols. On January 31, 1930 she was united in marriage to Paul Brenneman in Muscatine, he died in 1995. The couple farmed in the Nichols area for many years. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, always having a large garden, flowers, enjoyed quilting and crocheted snowflakes.
Survivors include three daughters: Wanda (Mel) Campbell of Marion, Loretta (Jack) Meyers of Nichols and Virginia (Gary) Swartzendruber of Lone Tree. A son-in-law: Dale (Jane) Buesing of Davenport. 15 grandchildren: Janet Campbell, Sheryl (Mark) Morgan, Gary (Karen) Campbell, Chris Buesing, Terri (Matt) Flynn, Linda (Kevin) Anderson, Julie (Ron) Hoffman, Brian Buesing, Jon Meyers, Jay (Wendy) Meyers, Jennifer Meyers, Jared (Rachel) Meyers, Stacy (Dave) Roe, Darin (Angie) Swartzendruber and Alisa (Ben) Roth. 30 Great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Two Brothers: Elmer Rathjen of Austin, Minnesota and Willard Rathjen of Alpena, Michigan. Three sisters-in-law: Ruby Rathjen of Rochester, Bernice Whitlock Brown of Atalissa and Amy Brenneman of Lone Tree. A brother-in-law: LeRoy Brenneman of Hills. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, daughter Lola Buesing in 1994, 4 sisters: Wilma Anthony, Ella Reynolds, Marie Mills and Neola McLaughlin, 4 brothers: Paul, Louis, Donald and Emil.
