Cecilia Ruess Cotter passed away July 30, 2010 at Corvallis, Oregon, where she has made her home the last few years. She was 87 years old and had lived a full and happy life. A Mass of Celebration will be held Wednesday, August 11 at 11:00 A.M. St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty, Iowa with visitation being held 1 hour before services. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Liberty, Iowa. Henderson-Barker funeral home is in charge of the services. Cecilia was born the daughter of Albert and Margeret Gatens Ruess on the Ruess Farm southeast of West Liberty. She graduated from West Liberty High School and then worked as secretary in Davenport, Iowa for a number of years. She married Douglas Hazelton in 1955 and he died in 1958. She later married William Cotter in 1967 and he died 1978. She has lived in various places including Davenport, South Bend, Ind, Santa Barbara, Ca, Milwaukee, Wi., West Liberty, Ia., Hemet, Ca, Medford, Or, and Corvallis, Or. Love of travel brought much joy to her life. She traveled world wide and especially loved to spend time at a beach. She was an avid golfer and was a competitive card player. She enjoyed spending the last years with her sister, Dottie. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Ruess Allen, sister-in-law, Jerry Ruess and brother-in-law, Jack Marron and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sister, Mary Jane Ruess Marron, four brothers, Ed and his wife Millie Ruess, Don and and his wife Beryl Ruess, Bob Ruess, And Jim and his wife Loretta Ruess.
