Davenport, Iowa Jerry Duane Carter, 67, a resident of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of West Liberty died on Friday, June 4, 2010 at his home. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty, Iowa. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born November 21, 1942 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Wayne & Mary Jane (Carpenter) Carter. During the Viet Nam Conflict, Jerry served in the U.S. Marines Corps. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1967 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Viet Nam Medal and the Viet Nam Campaign Medal. Jerry worked as an independent insurance adjuster for many years and in earlier years, was a licensed realtor in the Quad-Cities. Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, photography, bird watching, container gardening and hanging out in Jerryville, Wisconsin with his fishing buddies. Those left to honor his memory include his children, Cari (Kent) Pennel of Long Grove, Iowa; Cory Carter of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Cally (Shelia) Carter of Pierz, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Courtney Pennel of Park View, Iowa, Kayla & Cullin Carter of Pierz, Minnesota and Abbey Carter of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; his great-grandson, Nolan Mercer of Park View; his brother, Tom (Kathy) Carter of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; and a very special friend, Mary Samuelson.His parents preceded him in death.
