Edna Mae Powers, 82, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

She was born November 1, 1934 in Columbus Jct., Iowa the daughter of Howard and Fern (Diller) VanAuken. On July 6, 1963 she was united in marriage to Paul Powers in West Branch. In her early years Mae had worked at the button factory in Columbus Jct, Owens Brush in Iowa City, Cookie Jar and Coffeetown Restaurant and Atalissa Diner where she had worked as a prep cook, cook and waitress. She had also operated TOPS in West Liberty for several years.
She enjoyed camping, cooking, watching TV; especially the Food Channel and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband Paul of Iowa City. Three children: Paul Junior (Nicole) Powers of Lakewood, Washington, Nancy (Mitch) Kneppers of West Branch, Dan Powers of West Branch. Grandchildren: Christopher Powers, Nicole Harris, Michael Powers, Jennifer Powers, Tabitha Powers, Ronald Smith, Jessica Smith and Dalton Lunsford, great grandchildren: Christa Powers, Maddalee Powers, Camden Powers, Zane Lopez, Josiah Lopez, Gabriel Lopez and McKenna Powers. Brother, Mark (Ann) VanAuken of Fruitland and a sister in law, Pat VanAuken of Independence. A special nephew Mark VanAuken of Manchester also survives. He was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jim VanAuken, Burt VanAuken, Bill VanAuken and Chuck VanAuken.
