Nichols, Iowa Margaret Bernice Oostendorp, 96, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Community Center in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 until 11:30 at the Community Center. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Nichols Fire Department and First Responders. Margaret was born January 13, 1921 in Centerdale, Iowa the daughter of Everett and Nettie (Harned) Fox. She grew up on the family farm southwest of West Liberty. She was united in marriage to Bernard Oostendorp on November 30, 1939 in Nichols. Margaret worked with her husband at Bernie's Tavern for 27 years and with Bernie and Ron at Bernie's Farm Supply for 10 years. She enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, music and family gatherings. She is survived by her three sons: Virgil Oostendorp and wife Diane of Hinsdale, IL, Bob Oostendorp of Iowa City, and Ron Oostendorp and his wife Ellen of Muscatine. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Michael (Angie) Oostendorp, John (Cindy Sheets) Oostendorp, Kristin (Joe) Jung, Heather (John) Hester and Kimberly (Steve) O’Hare and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husband, and a sister Arlene Ward.
