Carmen “Hope” Pierce, 93 of West Liberty IA, died December 31, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City after a short illness.
A memorial service will be held 1 P.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the First Church United in West Liberty. Inurnment will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Church United, American Legion Auxiliary or Senior Dining. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.
Born July 24 1923; to Elva and Avis (McKillip) Markham, in Bloomington Township Muscatine co. Iowa, in her grandma McKillip’s home. A 1942 graduate of Muscatine High School, Hope was best known for her volunteer work and service. A member and president of American Legion Auxiliary, charter member of First Church United, choir member, past president of UCW, Sunday school teacher for 30 years, past Noble Grand and president of Rebekah’s, Community Center planning/funding committee, volunteer at Senior Dining Center, meals on wheels, Senior Resources board (6yrs).
An active volunteer she earned the State Volunteer Award and the Musc. Co. Senior Resources Award.
Hope received great joy from her family, friends and traveling. She loved to crochet, donating many items, gardening, camping, reading, helping others, and since 1955 auto racing.
Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by: husband C. Fred Pierce, sons C. Wayne Pierce, D. Richard Moyer, grandson Curtis Moyer, sister Kelly Weger, her parents and 2 infant brothers.
She is survived by 2 daughter-in-laws, 4 sisters, step brother,5 grandchildren, 12 great grand kids, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Hope is much loved and will be greatly missed.
