On November 19, 2016 our Mother, Shirley Weinard, was granted her wish to dance with the love of her life once again. Shirley Ann (Korte) Weinard, age 83, passed away at the Donna and Dennis Oldorf, Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on June 9, 1933. The daughter of Matilda (Mueller) Korte and Isadore W. Korte. After graduation from Cathedral High in St. Cloud, MN, she worked for Northwestern Bell in St. Cloud, MN as a telephone operator, later transferring to Indiana Bell in Indianapolis, IN. She transferred to Illinois Bell in Rock Island in Rock Island, Ill. In April 1958 she met the love of her life. 3 months later on July 19, 1958 she married LaVerne (Chub) Weinard in Davenport, IA. After his death in 1973, she went to work for Northwestern Bell in Iowa City, Iowa and ended her career with AT&T in Davenport, Iowa, retiring in 1991 with 25 years of service. After retirement, Shirley pursued a second career opening an in-home daycare. She was known as ‘Grandma Shirley’ to dozens of little ones over the next 20 years. Shirley was an avid reader, always with a book in hand. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing crafts, puzzles, crossword puzzles and participating in craft shows for more than 10 years. She loved the ballet and opera. Her family was first and foremost in her world. She was the kindest, most generous, loving mother to her 3 children; Anne Weinard (Brent Proctor), West Liberty, Ia., Audrey Gennevieve Weinard, Cedar Rapids, Ia., Angela Katherine (Bill) Lehman, North English,Ia. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Jacob Ady (Kim)Lehman, Conesville, Ia., Samantha Leigh (Jake) Kabela, West Branch, Ia., Megan Katherine (Jason) Lee, North English, Ia., Jordyn Lea Weinard, DesMoines, Ia., Josh Proctor, Denver, CO., and Haley Proctor, Austin, TX. 6 Great Grandchildren; Chason John Maier, Gentry Ann Maier and Brooks Daniel Kabela of West Branch, Ia., Jaxen Ady Lehman, Conesvilles, Ia., Walker Theodore Lee, North English, Ia., and Baby Kabela due April 2017. One Sister, Patricia (George) Hughes, Hopkins, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 15 years, Chub Weinard, 3 brothers; Donald (2015), LeRoy(2014) and Fredrick (2013)), a grandson, Nic Proctor (1998) and a great grandson, Corbin Thomas Maier in 2012. Memorial service will be held 10am Saturday November 26, 2016 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. A memorial visitation will be 4 to 7pm Friday November 25, 2016 at the funeral home and one hour prior to service Saturday. Inurnment will be at Oakridge Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. .
